Introduction

I have been taking photographs, at one level or another, since the family holidays in the late 1950's. In those days we had a box brownie and and took the full film into the local chemist and waited anxiously for a day or so to go and collect the dozen square black and white prints... Cameras have moved on since then... and I moved up to a cheap 35 mm camera, a Halina, and then on to a Zenit SLR camera and a couple of lenses. I ndu course that was replaced by a fully automatic Nikon system.

In 2005 I finally went digital and invested in a Fuji bridge camera... mainly because I didn't want to carry all the equipment that an SLR can lead to!.. However, in 2013, after months of research, and nervousness, I invested in a Canon DSLR system with a view to photographing wildlife, especially birds.

I have been a member of the RSPB for many years and always wanted to photograph birds and wildlife, but not having the appropriate equipment the results were always disappointing... but now I was able to get out and get the sort of shots I wanted. The Jackdaw (left) was from one of my first trips out to Rutland Water

I love all animals and nature in reality, and have always been keen on photographing animals in zoos... but only quality zoos where they do important work in conservation, of both habitat and species,  and the animals are well cared for. You will not however see pictures of pets....

I also like to take more specific pictures of natural things, such as a leaf, grass, flower... these can make both simple and elegant images.

I always took landscape pictures when on holiday, with more or less success, but am now taking far more landscapes again, both rural and urban.

During the summer of 2016 I discovered the beauty and benefits of photographing in black and white as well as colour, and find many images have more grandeur and are far more interesting and dramatic in black and white

Finally, influenced by my best friend, one of the greatest exponents of the art, I have become interested in people photography... not posed or even people I know, but real people in real situations who attract me in any way

The albums here will, I hope, reflect every aspect of what I take, and i will aim to post an album for most trips out i make... although how promptly they appear is not certain!!!

I will continue to post pictures on other platforms as well, and will welcome anyone who would like to look in there....
