Calke Abbey 25th August 2017

Calke Abbey in Ticknall, Derbyshire was bult on the site of an older Abbey, and was the family home of the Harpur-Crewe family. As the number of family members living in the Abbey reduced the family settled into a small part of the building, shutting up the house room by room. Each room has been left as it was when closed, and they remain unchanged now.

The Abbey sits in acres of parkland and has a small private chapel and a beautiful walled garden. There is a deer herd and sheep and cattle freely roam the estate.
