Bugtopia; 5th December 2016

Bugtopia is a small "zoo" specialising in reptiles and insects and based on the car park at Empingham on Rutland Water. When I visited it was a fairly new place and very much a work in progress... and certainly needs more work yet. The people running it are clearly devoted to their reptiles and insects, and tend to wander around wearing them!!...

However... the Meerkats are rather out of place in the collection and their pen is horribly inadequate. There is also a Palm Civet which at this time was in an enclosure more like a linen cupboard... but that is temporary while the permanent enclosure is under construction. One of the key attractions however is a Caiman... which has a substantial enclosure but was not anywhere to be seen... shame.

Serious issues with some of the enclosures.. but clearly work still going on to address that... lt's to be hoped that they rectify it quickly, in which case this could be worth a revisit.

Just a thought... somewhere to get a coffee would be nice!!
