Leicester is a Roman city, Ratea Corieltauvorum, and has untold treasures below the modern day road surface. Some years ago a factory was demolished on the edge of the modern city, and before redevelopment an Achaelogical Survey was undertaken by the Leicester Museum Archaelogical Department to see what was beneath the surface. The site was recently opened to the public to view... the site includes the site of a town house and some remarkable mosaics have been preserved.
