The main breeding colony of Arctic Terns is on Inner Farne Island... while they are there in the breeding seasonthey will staunchly defend their nests and eggs, which are in the grass by the paths. A visitor is lucky to get through the colony without being mobbed or dive-bombed and jabbed by the beak.
There is a smaller colony at Long Neddy, at the end of Beadnall beach, where you can watch the birds without risk of being attacked!!. These images come from both locations
