Abbey Park is a short walk away from the very centre of the city of Leicester, and is a lovely green oasis away from the crowds and traffic. On side is bordered by the canal, the opposite side is bordered by the site of the long departed Great Central Railway...The park is divided into two by the River Soar and there is a large boating lake in the centre
The ground plan of the now long vanished Leicester Abbey is marked out in stones in
one part of the park:
Trees in autumn colours around the boating lake
The fountain in the boating lake... this one taken with a fairly fast shutter speed to freeze the drops in the spray
From the opposite side of the lake, a more general shot showing something of the setting the fountain is in.
Joggers by the river. Th path is heavily shaded by the trees, while the bridge across the River Soar is lit by bright Autumn sunshine
More trees in Autumn foliage
One of my favourite spots on the park, a bench in open space on the edge of the boating lake... often surrounded by ducks and geese, it is always somehow a peaceful spot. The lady on the bench attracted my attention as she appears very much at peace sitting there.
A different view of the fountain, this time using a slower shutter speed to blur
the water to some extent
Down by the river.... a wildflower long past flowering standing out against the shadows
illuminated by the sunshine
... and a Mute Swan in full sail
The path between the river and the wall marking the edge of the actual Abbey area.
Taking his bicycle for a walk....
This part of the park is the Oval... lined on one side by a row of trees. In this image the mist is starting to dim the sunshine
